Events
Check out the events happening in our Preschool, Lower School and Upper School!
Preschool
Halloween Parade
Halloween is a classic American tradition that our students look forward to every year! Staff and students alike dress in their best costumes to celebrate the day.
Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
To welcome the fall season, our pre-K students travel to a pumpkin patch just outside Manhattan! In addition to choosing their own pumpkins to bring home with them, students enjoy a hay ride and visit the petting zoo.
New York Botanical Garden Field Trip
Each year, our Pre-K and Kindergarten students learn about the ecosystem in the classroom. To extend their learning, students also have the chance to explore the New York Botanical Garden to dive deeper into the plant life cycle in a real-life environment.
Animal and Insect Life Cycle Project
As part of their science curriculum, students learn about the life cycle of insects and animals. In nursery, students observe caterpillars as they cycle through the stages of metamorphosis before becoming butterflies. Our pre-K students learned about larvae and ladybugs. In Kindergarten, the class receives eggs from a local farm and observes them during the incubation period before they hatch into chicks.
Elementary
Reading Week
To celebrate our love of reading, each year students participate in various events such as writing and presenting poems, Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) and listening to read-alouds from "mystery reader" special guests such as students' parents and Lyceum Kennedy staff.
Bilingual Book Fair
One of our students' favorite annual events is our Bilingual Book Fair! With access to a variety of books that match students' interests and reading levels, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Students are able to explore new stories and characters from a wide range of genres and topics.
International Week
To celebrate the diversity of our Lyceum Kennedy community, each year our lower school participates in International Week. Students engage in activities honoring their unique cultural backgrounds, including dressing in traditional clothing, teaching their peers about unique traditions and sharing interesting historical facts about their home countries. At the end of the week, parents are invited to host a booth representing their home country during our International Day celebration!
Museum & Theater Field Trips
To supplement their learning inside the classroom, our elementary students visit local museums such as the National Museum of Mathematics, the New York Historical Society, the Center for Architecture, Arcadia Earth and more. Students also have the chance to attend theatre performances on Broadway.
Upper School
Young Ambassadors Annual Contest
Each year, the AEFE (Agency for French Teaching Abroad) hosts an international contest called "Young Ambassadors" or "Ambassadeurs, Ambassadrices en herbe". The program allows students to showcase their skills in multilingualism, oral expression and debate through the lens of current international issues. French-American bilingual schools from across North America submit video entries to be judged by an official panel. Learn more about the contest here.
Global Citizens Model United Nations Conference
Our 9th grade students participate in the annual GCMUN conference, an international Model United Nations conference held in Manhattan. More than 1,000 students from around the world come together to debate current events from the perspective of different countries.
Museum & Theater Field Trips
Going to school in Manhattan means having access to some of the best museums in the country! Our Upper School students have opportunities visit museums such as the Museum of Natural History and the New York Historical Society, New York's very first museum.
Career Week
Each year, we welcome professionals from a range of specialties and educational backgrounds to our Upper School campus for Career Week. Students learn about a variety of industries, including healthcare, government and humanitarian organizations, finance, communications, and art & entertainment.
Upper School Graduation
During our Upper School Graduation ceremony, our graduates are recognized and celebrated for their hard work and achievements throughout their academic careers at Lyceum Kennedy. While we are sad to see them go, we are excited to see where their post-graduate careers take them next!
