In addition to an excellent team of teachers, Lyceum Kennedy offers additional language support to help students strengthen their second language so that they can fully participate in all English and French programs.
Lyceum Kennedy academic support programs are small in class size. This class structure gives our students the support they need to learn more fluidly and feel more confident.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL classes are small (no more than 12 students) and are designed to teach English to students who do not use English as their native language. ESL instruction enables students to develop socially and academically, while achieving competency in the English language and eventually being integrated into the regular English classroom. The ESL teacher collaborates closely with the student’s English teacher in order to harmonize the themes of their lessons.
Français langue étrangère (FLE)/French as a Foreign Language
FLE classes are small (no more than 12 students) and are designed to teach French to students who do not use French as their native language. FLE instruction provides students with the basic verbal language skills that cannot be acquired outside of school and to reinforce their spoken and written mastery of the French language. A tailored plan for each student is created based on his or her level and needs.
Students who do not speak French (and who have not attended a French preschool program) will participate in our Transition Class (Ardsley Campus only).
One-to-one sessions support students who are challenged in math, reading, or writing. Students receive personalized support or small group tutoring focused on strengthening the skills needed to succeed in English class or French class.
