Our program has three levels:Our Preschool / Kindergarten program (the Maternelle) embraces the belief that all children can learn, starting from a very young age. We provide our young children with opportunities to maximize their full potential and to prepare for later grades. Our ultimate goal is to help our children become independent and to make their first years at school a wonderful experience that fosters a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
- Nursery (Petite section): 3 years old
- Pre-K (Moyenne section): 4 years old
- Kindergarten (Grande section): 5 years old
Students in our Preschool/Kindergarten program have the benefit of learning two languages simultaneously. Half of all instruction is in French and half in English.
Lyceum Kennedy Preschool / Kindergarten curriculum is structured in five areas of development:
- Language Development (written and spoken language)
- Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Cognitive Development
In each class, our teachers work together to create an atmosphere that is warm, nurturing and supportive. Our comprehensive curriculum promotes mastery of basic reading, writing, and math skills. It allows the teachers to recognize each child’s strengths, interests and abilities.
In addition to the academic areas, our curriculum promotes social, emotional, physical, and creative development as well.
In Kindergarten at Lyceum Kennedy, there is a greater emphasis on phonemic/phonological awareness, reading readiness and beginning mathematical concepts.
Our developmentally appropriate environments and approaches to teaching are designed to encourage the children to play, explore, discover, and create—and most importantly, to inspire a love of learning in each child.
Upon completion of our Preschool / Kindergarten program, our students are well prepared to enter elementary school, with their reading, written expression and mathematics skills developed in both French and English.
